Confidence Ebbs and Outfit Choices

So I was talking with a fellow subscriber a while back and it inspired me to come up with this post. She mainly wanted me to share a few tips regarding gaining confidence in rocking your outfit. I mean the first and foremost tip I give anyone who’s confused with their clothing choices is to wear what they want, like they want and when they want. Irrespective of whether someone likes what you come up with, if you feel comfortable in it, if you feel confident in it, you have every right to rock your day in it. That’s the motto I’ve been living by for as long as I can recall. Obviously, this requires some common sense, you wouldn’t go attend your lectures in your bikini or go to a job interview in your pajamas, but you get the gist of what I am saying.

You shouldn’t wear something solely for making an impression on people, rather wear it cause it makes you feel some way. You love how it looks. You love how it makes you feel. Dressing to impress is not a journey I recommend anyone to take, it’s merely forced and you’re not allowing yourself to express your true self. If I was supposed to meet some person that fancied people that wear pink things, I’m not going to show up dressed in pink from head to toe. I’ll simply try to incorporate some pink into my outfit, after all, I’m dressing for me and not for that person. I’m the one that is supposed to be feeling comfortable in what I am wearing, not the other person.

Same thing with trends, if literally everyone is wearing some new trend that has appeared, and you force yourself to wear it too even though you don’t like it. Just don’t. Scared of being the odd one out? So be it. Being odd is unique, own it.

Of course, I don’t always have good outfit days, I too question my clothing choices, shocker. I’ll be sharing my go-to hacks on how I deal with these days below.

Not only do blazers look good, but they also allow you to feel and look put together. Currently, I do not own a full set :dress pants and a matching blazer/ suit jacket. True, wearing the full thing would be too formal for a normal day outfit. But say if you’re going to a fancy lunch/dinner or to an event, feel free to wear the complete set. Or else opt for just the blazer and pair it with casual trousers, such as high-waisted jeans.

Holy grail items

We’ve all got certain fabrics that we treat with care: cashmere sweaters, leather jackets, faux-fur jackets. We save these holy grail items for certain days. However, days where we’re feeling less confident, should be one of the days we pull out these holy grails. Leather jackets go with almost anything whether it is a fancy dress or even your fave ripped jeans.

Not only do we have clothes though, but we also have holy grail shoes. If you’re comfortable with heels, go get your fave pair out. If you’re more of a sneaker person or flats person get your fanciest pair out.

Heels enhance your look-literally and physically. Something about adding an extra inch or two to your look immediately makes you lengthen your stride and adds a confident sway to your hips. If you’re not that comfortable with stilettos you have so many other heel alternatives -such as block heels or chunky platform shoes. These are more comfortable alternatives, and they’ll still give you that extra height.

Cardigans and kimonos exude wonder woman vibes for me personally. There have been studies which show that there is power poses that in fact helps people with confidence boosts. Wonder woman pose – a pose where you stand feet apart, hands on hips, shoulders back – for women. And respectively the superman pose for men.  Whether it’s before a big presentation, or before walking into an interview, doing these power poses has proven to boost people’s confidence. So along with the power pose, why not throw on your favorite cardigan. Either pair it with high waisted jeans or a skirt of your liking.

Dresses can also make you look put together. So throw on your favorite dress, let your hair down and accessorize as you want. If you’re comfortable with showing off your figure, wear one that does exactly that. If you’re more comfortable with flowy dresses, then wear a flowy floral one perhaps and sashay along and conquer your day and show the world what a girl boss you are.

Remember that no matter what you wear, you are a girl boss, and you will always be one. Clothes are just your extra armor. Wanting to have clothes that you can turn to for an extra boost of confidence is absolutely fine. Wanting to slay your day in your pajamas is also absolutely fine. Just believe in yourself, and do you. If you haven’t heard of the saying:” you wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you.” Well now you have, and I want you guys to apply this whenever you’re feeling low. Successful people don’t achieve their successes by rocking designer outfits, it simply contributes to one of the few things that help them boost their confidence, and achieve successful things. The rest is all them.

That’s all I have for you guys on boosting your confidence with your outfit choices. What’s your go-to clothing for days your confidence is at a low ebb? Do share your thoughts and comments down below.
