Prosaic Grooves

Don’t get me wrong, I love me some prose but poetry takes you places.
Life is supposed to ‘take you places’ as well, but sometimes we get ‘stuck’ in a literal and figurative sense. Ah yes you guessed right, I’m referring to the jolly uninspirational ruts we get stuck into periodically. We can definitely refer to the ‘uninspirational ruts’ as ‘prosaic grooves’.

I personally went through this recently and I figured I’d do a post on how I managed to get out of what I had gotten myself into. Perhaps this will help lure someone out, perhaps it won’t, but I just thought I’d just put it out there. Will I be back in that position? Most likely, but hey it’s not like anyone does it willingly. When it happens it just happens, but at least this time round I’ll have an idea of how I can get myself out of it so it won’t be that overwhelming.

When you get into a rut like this, first it’s important that you admit that you’ve gotten yourself into a rut. It’s only then that you can start moving forward with step two, or else you’ll be on a never ending loop of doubt, and we don’t need that.

Secondly, it’s important that you surround yourself with creative people. If you’ve accomplished step one you won’t be consumed with self loathe/self doubt thoughts, but rather gain inspiration from seeing how and why being creative satisfies them. And eventually realise why you decided to do what you do, why you love it, and that you actually miss doing it.

Take this opportunity and bond with those in the same boat as you over this. You may or may not have the same reasons for feeling uninspired but, make the most of it. Try to motivate each other and seek for inspiration together.

As much as it helps to make an effort to find those experiencing the same thing as you; it’s also important to find a good support system. Whether it’s your family or your close friends, make an attempt to explain what you’re going through. True they may not understand it fully, and don’t get frustrated over this. It’s not their fault.Cherish the fact that they’re there for you. They’ll try their best to shower you with motivating words, and at the very least put a smile on your face. Don’t push them away, let them in.

Finally, find substitutes to pursue in order to replace your creative side/creativity. It doesn’t necessarily have to be permanent, it can be temporary. You feel this way for a reason you might was well make the most of it. Try meditation, find peace with yourself. Read scriptures if that’s what you feel will help you. Whatever you do, try to get your mind of what you’re feeling uninspired about, and try your best to gain an optimistic attitude.Afterall a negative and pessimistic attitude won’t help you get out of this rut nor will it speed up the process. So breathe. It will be hard, but you’ll get through it.

These are what helped to get me out of the rut I was in. They may or may not work for you. I sincerely hope you find a way out though if you’re currently stuck in a rut, feeling helpless and uninspired. What’s your go-to approach when you feel like this? I’d love to hear your thoughts as always, leave them all down below in the comments.
